MASTER GARDENER PROJECT REQUESTS
Guidelines for Requesting Master Gardener Assistance
Cornell Cooperative
Extension’s mission is to enable people to improve their lives and local
communities through partnerships that put experience and research knowledge to
work. The Master Gardener Volunteer Program is an important part of this
organization, serving the community through horticultural education. Our
volunteers receive 120 hours of horticultural training in exchange for 100 hours
of volunteer service in the community.
The Master Gardener
Program receives requests for assistance from many local organizations.
All requests are screened by our Project Review Committee to see if it
meets our mission goals and is viable. Once a project is approved, it is
presented to the group for volunteers.
The following steps will help guide you
through the project request process:
1. All
organizations requesting Master Gardener assistance must complete the attached
Project Request Form. Please feel free to attach additional information,
sketches or photos and return it to the Cornell Cooperative Extension Office.
2. Requests
are reviewed to determine if they fit into Cornell Cooperative Extension’s
mission. They should have some type of educational component, whether it is
interaction with the general public or training for members of your
organization. Projects requesting maintenance activities such as pruning,
weeding, moving materials are likely to be denied unless your request is for
training within your organization.
3. Upon
review, the request may be denied. Requests that are accepted are presented to
our Master Gardener volunteers at the next monthly meeting. Please allow several
weeks for this process. At various
times, due to other ongoing projects and volunteer interests, the project may
not be pursued.
