Purchase of Development Rights
The Purchase of Development Rights Program is one of many tools that the
County
of
Ulster
and its Farmland Protection Board uses to strengthen agriculture profitability
and preserve our agricultural landscape. This competitive program is designed as
a willing buyer/ willing seller opportunity with the development rights
generally held by a not for profit organization. This program is not a panacea
for farmland protection and selling the development rights of a farm in
perpetuity is a difficult and complicated decision for farm owners and their
families.
