4-H Projects
What
will my child do in 4-H?
4-H Members choose projects that interest them. New York State has more than
150 4-H Projects to choose from. These projects are educational and
practical. Your child may attend regular meetings, be involved in public
speaking, community service activities, or serve as a club officer. Your
child also may want to participate in county events such as 4-H camp or the
county fair. Also, opportunities are available for trips to other states
ad countries.
What are 4-H projects?
A 4-H project is a planned series of learning experiences through which youth develop knowledge, skills and/or attitudes. For instance, if a member wants to build a Bluebird
nestbox, the actual construction represents one activity of the overall project. The Bluebird project would consist of learning about the Bluebird in New York State, their habitat, what they feed on, where they nest, as well as building the nestbox and placing it in an appropriate location, then monitoring the Bluebird activity at the box.
What are 4-H activities or events?
These are things that supplement the regular 4-H project work. County wide events in Ulster County include: the County Fair, field trips, Horse Bowl, parades, picnics, window exhibits, community service projects, and public presentations.
